Who We Are: Danzig, Heavy Metal from Lodi, New Jersey
We're Danzig, a heavy metal band from Lodi, New Jersey. Here's who we are, where the name comes from and how it all started.
Where does the name Danzig come from?
The band carries the name of its founder and frontman, Glenn Danzig. Before Danzig, Glenn fronted the Misfits and then Samhain. Danzig grew out of Samhain after Glenn was introduced to the producer Rick Rubin, and in 1987 the new band was born.
Who was in the first lineup?
The first Danzig was four people:
- Glenn Danzig: vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards
- Eerie Von: bass
- John Christ: lead guitar
- Chuck Biscuits: drums
That lineup made our first four albums, from Danzig in 1988 to Danzig 4 in 1994, plus the EP Thrall-Demonsweatlive. Chuck Biscuits left in the summer of 1994, and John Christ and Eerie Von followed in July 1995.
Who plays in Danzig today?
The lineup has changed often over the years. Today it's Glenn Danzig on vocals, Tommy Victor on guitar, Steve Zing on bass and Karl Rosqvist on drums.
What does Danzig sound like?
Heavy metal, with a blues and doom feel running through it. Dark, heavy and a little bit horror, which is exactly what you'll see in the art: the horned skull, the cross and the ragged DANZIG logo.
Where do the designs come in?
Every design in our store is built around that look: black, bone white and a little blood red. You'll find them on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies.
